Subject: 2012 SSRIC Student Conference

Dear Colleagues,

On Thursday, May 3, 2012, California State University, Los Angeles will be hosting the 36th annual SSRIC (Social Science Research and Instructional Council) Student Research Conference.

The CSU, SSRIC Student Research Conference is modeled on professional conferences in the social sciences. The Council invites both undergraduate and graduate students, from all CSU and California Community College campuses and in all areas of the social sciences, to present their research to their peers.

Please encourage your students to consider submitting their research to our conference. Individual and group papers are welcome. Participants should be prepared to make oral presentations of about 15 minutes in length.

The atmosphere of the Conference is relaxed, and the emphasis is on meeting and sharing with students with similar interests from throughout the CSU. For many students this will be their first experience of presenting their work at a conference and we will make every effort to provide a supportive environment.

There are student awards for the best undergraduate paper, the best graduate paper, and the best paper using quantitative data. If students want to compete for the best paper awards, they will need to submit their paper. Both a written paper and an oral presentation are required for award consideration, though the oral presentation itself is not considered in deciding on the awards. If students want to present their work and not compete for the best paper awards, all they need to do is to submit an abstract.

Written papers need to be submitted by April 16, 2012 and abstracts by April 27, 2012. Please email your papers and abstracts to me at amodarr at exchange.calstatela.edu. If you have any questions, you can also reach me by phone at 323-343-3788.

Your campus has an SSRIC representative who will be glad to talk with students who are considering submitting papers. You can find your campus SSRIC representative at http://ssric.org/reps.

Cordially,

Ali Modarres, Ph.D. California State University, Los Angeles
